Abstract:A ramp shift strategy that identified the riding condition based on rotational speed of engine when the clutch was locked after shifting and chose the proper gear based on the vehicle's speed has been provided. The ramp shift test on one heavy truck with AMT was done, and the test results showed that by dropping gear continuously or discontinuously, the proper gear could be found eventually when the vehicle was running on ramp, though the original gear might be improper. Using existing sensors of vehicles, the ramp shift strategy achieved ramp shift control, which did not only match the need of vehicles' real riding condition, but also simplified the hardware of control system.
